Mikayla Pivert is a Research Associate at the Oregon Health & Science University Spine Center in Portland. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology Pre-Medicine from Oregon State University, demonstrating a keen interest in the intricacies of human movement and health. Her decision to complement her major with minors in French and Spanish speaks to her commitment to holistic patient care, recognizing the importance of effective communication in diverse healthcare settings.
She began her professional journey at OHSU as a Medical Scribe for Dr. Josiah Orina and Dr. W.H. Andrew Ryu, Department of Neurosurgery - OHSU Spine Center in December 2022. This initial exposure ignited her passion for spine care, prompting her to actively engage in various research projects over the past year. Under the mentorship of Dr. Orina, Mikayla has seamlessly integrated her strong academic foundation with practical applications. Her dedication to exploring innovative solutions aligns with the Spine Center’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of spinal care.
Mikayla plans to apply to Medical School this May after completing a 4-week study abroad program in Inpatient/Hospital Medicine in Oaxaca Mexico. She is eager to further her knowledge in global health and gain valuable insight through rotation at two Government Hospital surgery centers in Oaxaca City.
In her role as a presenter at the 2024 Spine Summit, Mikayla Pivert offers a unique blend of academic rigor, linguistic diversity, and a fervent dedication to advancing spine care. Her presentation promises to delve into optimizing patient outcomes, minimally invasive technique, and cost-effective care strategies in spine surgery.
