Jannik Leyendecker grew up in Cologne Germany. After attending the Kaiserin Theophanu Highschool he worked at the public hospital Nyabondo, Kenya in HIV prevention from 2010-2011. In his free time he supported a local kindergarten in Pundo, Kenya and helped raising funds for the construction of a new classroom. The project "A Heart for Pundo" is still operating today and provides free meals for children attending the school. So far, 3 new classrooms have been added. In 2011 Jannik Leyendecker enrolled in Med School at the University Clinic of Cologne and graduated as an MD in 2018. Thereafter he started working as a research fellow in pediatric nephrology at the University Clinic of Cologne until 2019. In 2019 he started his residency in Trauma and Orthopedic surgery at the University Clinic of Cologne. In 2022 he started a research fellowship at the University of Washington working in the Hofstetter lab. His research focus is endoscopic spine surgery and traumatic spinal cord injury in both preclinical and clinical settings.
