Edwin Owolo is a fourth-year medical student at the Duke University School of Medicine. Edwin graduated from Harvard University in 2019 with a degree in Neurobiology and conducted research on parental behavior in mice in the Dulac Lab under Dr. Catherine Dulac. He was also a member of the varsity baseball team for four years in which he was an Ivy League Champion in his senior season. In Boston, he founded Crimson Medical Mentorship Program, a non-profit organization aimed at exposing high school students from URM backgrounds to the medical field. At Duke, Edwin has continued his passion for mentorship as an executive board member of the Future Leaders in Neurosurgery Symposium for Underrepresented Students (FLNSUS). Edwin has an interest in clinical research for improving patient outcomes and working to reduce disparities within the field of neurosurgery, with a focus on patient portal utilization. As a Policy Research Fellow for the CNS/CSNS, he was able to further study how enrollment of neurosurgical patients on the patient portal impacts clinical outcomes. As an NREF Medical Student Summer Research Fellow, Edwin studied the role of TGF-B in breast cancer metastasis to the spine. His clinical interests include spine and oncology.
