(SS4) Scientific Session 4: Peripheral Nerve for the Spine Surgeon

Peripheral nerve lesions are essential to understand and appreciate for all neurosurgeons, especially spine surgeons. This course focuses on newest techniques and technologies to improve diagnostic success, ease of surgeries and improving outcomes. Emphasis of the course is providing concrete and implementable solutions to improve surgeons’ comfort, skillset and patient satisfaction.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the benefits of using ultrasound in routine practice, including diagnostic blocks and peripheral nerve stimulation
  • Understand the specific anatomy of peripheral nerve surgery when visualized through an endoscope, as well as potential benefits to patient outcomes
  • Appreciate the differential diagnosis which includes all manifestations of the peripheral nerve – from spinal root, to plexus to individual nerve
  • Implement the optimal MR imaging protocols into practice
  • See how robotics are improving patient outcomes in devasting neurological injuries
