Dr. Dhall specializes in complex spinal surgery, including trauma, degenerative disease, tumors and deformities. He has held numerous leadership positions throughout his career. He was Chief of Neurosurgery at Grady Memorial in Atlanta, one of the largest Level 1 trauma centers in the South. More recently, Dr. Dhall was the director of the spinal neurotrauma program at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and led UCSF's research program on spinal cord injuries.
In addition to clinical leadership, Dr. Dhall is distinguished in research. He has authored more than 130 publications which have been cited over 5,000 times with an h-index of 43, a marker of the outstanding importance and impact of his research. U.S. Congress has recognized Dhall's work on medical guidelines for injury to the cervical spinal cord. He is a co-author of the widely utilized Guidelines for the Management of Acute Cervical Spine and Spinal Cord Injuries, as well as Guidelines for the Performance of Fusion Procedures for Degenerative Disease of the Lumbar Spine. He has frequently been a featured guest on CNN, where he has given expert commentary on brain and spinal injury.
Dr. Dhall received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University, and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Neurosurgery at Emory University, and a fellowship in complex spine at UC San Francisco.
