Michael Haglund is the DIstinguished Professor of Neurosurgeyr, Global Health, and Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at Duke Univeristiy. As the Division Chief of the Duke Global Neurosurgery and Neurologiy (DGNN), he oversees a team of over 100 faculty, graduate and medical students as well as neurosurgery residents that work in East Aftirca, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. His team has been working in Uganda for over 16 years delivering over 150 tons of medical equipment and supplies worth over 14 million USDs. DGNN has developed two training programs in Uganda and trained 9 neurosurgeons with 20 more in the training program as of 2024. Three Neurosurgery Units have been established. DGNN has also led a focused effort in Epilepsy, establishing the first Epilepsy Clinic in Uganda that sees over 1,500 patients per year.
