James S Harrop MD, MSHQS is a Professor of neurological and orthopedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University.
He graduated from Thomas Jefferson University Medical School in 1995 and continued with his internship and neurosurgical residency here. He then completed a combined Neurosurgical and Orthopedic spine fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He began his practice at Jefferson and developed a strong infrastructure by establishing the Division of Spine and Peripheral Nerve Surgery in our department. He was able to recruit and grow the Division from one to nine neurosurgical spine faculty. Has obtained CAST certification, a spine fellowship recognized as one of the tops in the country. Today, the Division performs over 2000 spine operations per year and excels in a number of additional quality metrics which he utilizes his MSHQS degree
Furthermore, as mentioned, Dr. Harrop is a consummate academician, and he has over 650 publications in peer-reviewed journals and over 100 book chapters. He has presented nationally and internationally. He has one of the highest H-indices (83) in the University. He has made impacts in spinal trauma, spinal cord injury research, degenerative disease management, and deformity spinal disorders. Academically, the division continues to grow.
