Venu Nemani, MD, PhD is a spine surgeon specializing in cervical spine and spinal deformity surgery at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle, WA. After his residency at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, Dr. Nemani completed a fellowship in complex adult and pediatric spinal deformity surgery at Washington University in St. Louis and Columbia University. He also spent additional time training in Japan with experts in scoliosis and cervical spine surgery.
Dr. Nemani's practice focuses on the surgical treatment of all disorders of the cervical spine including cervical myelopathy, cervical radiculopathy and cervical deformities. He also has particular expertise in the surgical treatment of complex disorders of the thoracic and lumbar spine including scoliosis, kyphosis, flatback, and revision spine surgery.
Dr. Nemani believes in a comprehensive approach to patient care and works with all members of the medical team to treat spinal problems conservatively before considering an operation. If surgery is necessary, he will perform spine surgery utilizing the most safe and effective techniques in a manner that is tailored for each individual patient and their particular goals.
Dr. Nemani has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed research articles in many of the top journals in spine surgery and neuroscience, including Spine, The Spine Journal, Neurosurgery, Neuron, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and the Journal of Neuroscience. He has presented over 70 scientific studies at national and international conferences, and written more than 15 book chapters on various topics in spine surgery. Dr. Nemani continues to be actively involved in research to improve the outcomes and safety of spine surgery, and is an active member of the Cervical Spine Research Society and the Scoliosis Research Society. He has also volunteered his time as a spine surgeon in Ghana, where he surgically treated some of the most rare and complex spinal deformities in both pediatric and adult patients.
