Eli Johnson, MD, is a PGY-4 Neurosurgery resident at Duke University with a deep-rooted interest in spinal oncology. Born and raised in Far Rockaway, New York, Dr. Johnson began his journey in medicine at NYU, pursuing undergraduate studies in Neuroscience. He then advanced to Stanford School of Medicine for his medical education, where his passion for neurosurgery and research flourished.

During his time at Stanford, Dr. Johnson was actively involved in single-cell genomics work at the Gephart Lab, focusing on unraveling the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms driving tumorigenesis in the central nervous system. The research aimed at identifying new drug targets and enhancing diagnostic capabilities for brain tumors. Continuing his research trajectory, Dr. Johnson joined the Goodwin Lab at Duke University during his residency. The Goodwin Lab is renowned for its comprehensive work in understanding the genetic predictors and cellular mechanisms of metastatic spine disease, as well as the functional consequences of disease recurrence and progression. Dr. Johnson's contributions to various research projects and collaborations at the Goodwin Lab underscore his dedication to advancing the field and improving patient care for those with spinal tumors.
