Raj S. Lavadi, M.B.B.S, joined the Agarwal Lab at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in May 2023. He has been under the able guidance of Dr. Agarwal since July 2022, when he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. His research focuses on personalizing the care of patients with spine disease as well as using advanced, diffusion imaging modalities to identify biomarkers in patients with traumatic brain injury. He aims to demystify the complexities of performing research as a medical trainee and frequently guides undergraduate and medical students in their own research efforts. Despite being raised in New Jersey, Raj went to medical school in India and received his degree from Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre. Before Raj joined the Agarwal Lab, he wrote blog posts for Chowder and Champions. He enjoys keeping up with the latest neurosurgical literature, exploring the outdoors with his family, peer mentoring, and playing Mridangam—a South Indian percussion instrument of which he has over two decades of experience. He also enjoys long-distance running and watching the Boston Celtics.
