Dr. Michael Bohl is a board-certified neurosurgeon with an adult and pediatric spine deformity practice at Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates in Charlotte, North Carolina. He completed residency training at the Barrow Neurological Institute, where he founded the Barrow Innovation Center and completed enfolded clinical and research fellowships in complex spine surgery. He completed an orthopedic spine deformity fellowship at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. His research interests include surgical device and technique innovation, resident education, and spine biomechanics. He initiated a collaboration with plastic surgery in the development of a series of new techniques for utilizing rotational bone flaps to augment spinal arthrodesis. He is also the inventor of a spine modeling technology used to create biomechanically realistic surgical training models now being utilized around the world in surgical education, research, and device development. His ongoing projects include the development of novel testing platforms for studying the biomechanics of specific pathologies, and using these data to drive future innovation efforts. He is also actively involved in resident education at Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates.
